#1 of 30 in Shopping in Havana
In Old Havana's oldest depository, a lively hub of colorful handicrafts, artisan products, and music dwells in Almacenes San Jose. Dating back to 1885, the renovated warehouse now stocks everything from leather craft and ceramics, to toys and tobacco accessories. Take your time to explore the multicolored maze, a cultural hub that also supports local artists using the space for musical performances and art activities. Haggle with the shopkeepers, who don't mind having a friendly debate about the price. Spend time hunting for a bargain and ensure what you’re purchasing is an authentic Cuban piece. • This is a souvenir hunter's dream. We are talking nearly 500 stalls/shops downstairs plus dozens of art shops along the entire upstairs level. The art is extensive and varied and should cater for...  more »
  • Yes, this is a tourist spot, but if you don’t have much time or want one-stop shopping, this is the place for you. I would say there are at least 200 booths many with similar items. But if you...  more »

  • This market is THE place to go to get all of your souvenirs purchased in one go! There are so many vendors and items for you to choose from, and are priced astonishingly well! The art though, the ART was beautiful! We started out by looking at all of the art shops (they go around the perimeter) and there were all different styles, genres, and concepts. Our family loved it! The art is very well priced, however you may want to make sure you bring enough money to budget for it (if you're from the us and can't use an atm, particularly). The most expensive, huge, canvas pieces we saw went for about $180. And a lot of art was generally around $60-$100. Far better prices then you'd find back home. Also, a lot of the artists are there too... you can request something custom and come back to pick it up! The ONLY caveat is how aggressive the vendors can be. It can get overwhelming, fast. I understand why (an extensive amount of competition) but 200+ vendors with the same intensity can be a bit draining.
  • Right around corner from our hotel. Was good to find on our first jet-lagged evening. Good food, really attentive service. No hesitation in recommending it.
