Omoide Yokocho
If you want to experience how locals unwind after a hard day's work, visit Omoide Yokocho, which holds the reputation as one of city's most popular drinking dens. Its genuine roots date back to the 1940s post-war era, where street vendors sold their goods and black market traders lurked in the shadows. Today, packed with around 60 small restaurants and bars, this narrow neon alley still barely allows two people to pass one another, yet it perfectly symbolizes Japan's nightlife. You'll need to get used to the charm of this place--the sake, grilled fish, smoke, and noise--otherwise, search for fine dining somewhere else. Make Omoide Yokocho a centerpiece of your Tokyo vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Tokyo trip itinerary maker website.

This is one of my favourite places in Tokyo. Amongst the busy neon light streets of Shinjuku you find these tiny narrow alleys full of colours, flavours, interesting foods and people. It’s a must go! Go by yourself or with a friend and date to sit at just about any tiny place you find interesting and just order whatever they have on the grill. Be bold and enjoy. Talk to the stranger sitting next to you and feel the vibe. You will truly feel you are in Tokyo. Loved it!

Cool area with lots of little eateries. Food is cheap and good, but this place is all about atmosphere and rubbing shoulders with the locals. Be careful some places don't like you taking photographs. Some stalls can get quite smokey. This is a great experience even if you don't go in and eat anything. Would definitely recommend going if you are in this part of town. Best time to go is after working hours.
