Must see · Scenic Drive · Tourist Spot
Scenic and encapsulating views of the Franschhoek Valley define the drive through Franschhoek Pass. Said to have been used by elephants to cross from one valley to the other, the pass was formally built in 1822. The road follows the northern edge of the Franschhoek mountain range, overlooking the verdant valley and offering picturesque mountain views. The paved road includes sharp curves and some visitors may be nervous along the edge. • Fabulous drive, but must do slow! Steep and winding. Has some stop off areas for great pics. Lots of cyclists the day we traveled. Not sure how they did it!  more »
  • Breathtaking views over the mountain pass. Lots of safe spots to pull over and take in the views of the Franshhoek Valley  more »
  • Very beautiful view with many hiking trails nearby.
  • This is a beautiful drive that one should definitely do on a sunny day to be able to appreciate its beauty to the fullest! I would recommend driving with caution as there are many turns, trucks and an occasional cyclist on the road.
