Madikwe Nature Reserve, Zeerust

#5 of 22 in Parks in North-West Province
Must see · Nature / Park · Hidden Gem · Wildlife Area
See the "big five" game animals of South Africa--lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, and leopards--in the protected habitat of Madikwe Nature Reserve. An ex-farmland turned into a reserve, the park contains more than 10,000 mammals from more than 60 species of animals. The reserve emphasizes the protection of the animals in their natural habitat; visitors must respect restrictions on vehicles. Take time to see the highly endangered African wild dog. All the profits from this reserve go into uplifting the economy of the local communities. The site offers lodging as well.
