Maseru
— 6 nights

Founded in 1869 by the British, Lesotho's main city--Maseru--lies on the border with South Africa on a plateau surrounded by red hills.Ha Kome Cave Houses and Thaba-Bosiu National Monument will appeal to history buffs. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Our Lady of Victory Cathedral and Morija Museum & Archives. Get out of town with these interesting Maseru side-trips: Gates of Paradise Pass (in Malealea), Maletsunyane Falls Semonkong (in Semonkong) and Mafika Lisiu Pass (in Pitseng). And it doesn't end there: see human ingenuity at work at Katse Dam, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Maluti Mountains, explore the galleries of National Museum, and get a taste of the local shopping with Lesotho Co-operative Handicrafts.
